Tutor
PRINCIPLE PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE:
To provide the learners with education in a variety of settings to meet individual needs. Working with groups of 6-8 delivering accredited and non-accredited learning.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Preparation and delivery of accredited qualifications (including sessions planning and schemes of work)
- Working 121 or with groups of students within the Northampton centre assisting young people to complete tasks which challenge them
- Preparation of the classroom setting and associated resources
- Endeavour to give every young person the opportunity to reach their full potential and meet high expectations
- Maintain and record discipline in accordance with Rushmere procedures
- Encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour and standard of work
- Encouraging positive behaviours and outcomes through support and communication
- Management of qualifications from registration to achievement
- Development of qualification and curriculum plans
- Contribute to the preparation of individual development plans and progress reports
- Identify and recommend resolutions to specific student issues
- Track students who are temporarily dis-engaged and support them to reintegrate
- Communication with parents/carers and schools to encourage student well-being and progression
- Take part in activities such as Open Days, Parents Evening, Review days and other similar events
- Adhere to Health and Safety, safeguarding and all other Rushmere Policies and Procedures
- Ensure the best practice in equal opportunities is applied to all work of Rushmere
- Be committed to the continual participate in the development of Rushmere
- Take part in appropriate training opportunities and take responsibility for own professional development, including the recording of this

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- GSCE or equivalent grade C or above in Maths and English.
- Level 4 Education and Training or equivalent
Desirable
- Level 5 Education and Training or QTS Counselling
- Specialist teaching qualification in chosen area
Experience
- Working with young people aged 11-16 years old (any setting)
- Experience working with young people who require additional emotional, social and behaviour support in an educational setting
- Youth and community experience
Knowledge and Understanding
- Issues young people can face in school and social settings
- Understanding of equality and diversity
- Clear understanding of safeguarding
- Professional boundaries;
- Leading by example with high expectations
- Learning styles and development in young people

The job holder is required to contribute to and support the overall aims and ethos of Rushmere. All colleagues are required to participate in training and other learning activities and performance management and development as required by the company’s policies and practices.
This role is subject to an enhanced DBS with barred list check. The role is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments of the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 and 2020), which require you to disclose all spent convictions and cautions except those which are ‘protected’ under the Police Act 1997 – Part V.
